One of the hardest parts of getting a tattoo is deciding on the image that you're going to get permanently imprinted onto your body. Some people like to go for very generic images or images that are popular at the time. Others (like myself) want something that is more personal or unique. I'm really tired of seeing the Japanese letters on people who don't even know what they mean.
Finding something outside the norm can pose a problem. It's hard to find something that hasn't been done before or hasn't been overdone. You could draw an image of something that is really important to you. One of my favorite things is to take the letters of a name and turn them into a very unique and abstract design. If you aren't much of an artist, many tattoo shops have employees that are more than willing to listen to your idea and try to draw it out for you.
My boyfriend (though he only has one tattoo) likes to buy tattoo magazines such as Tattoo, Savage, and Flash. These are good to flip through to help come up with ideas. They can be a bit pricey though. If it's too much for your budget, you may want to try a site like topdesigntattoo.com where they have a huge collection of some really cool and unique tattoos.
I've looked and when it comes to finding unique tattoo ideas, it can be a bit difficult to find exactly what you're looking for on the web or in magazines. If you haven't a clue, open a magazine or subscribe to a tattoo gallery site such as the one I mentioned. Become inspired somehow. Whether it takes a few days or a few months, you can come up with your own unique tattoo design. Trust me, in the end, it will be worth the work.
